At this magical time of celebrations I would like to share with you some inspirational pictures of Sacred Architecture.
Sacred architecture is a religious architectural practise concerned with the design and construction of places of worship and intentional spaces, such as churchesmosquessynagogues and templesSacred, religious and holy structures often evolved over centuries and were the largest buildings in the world, prior to the modern skyscraper. While the various styles employed in sacred architecture sometimes reflected trends in other structures, these styles also remained unique from the contemporary architecture used in other structures.

In architecture a lightwell or air shaft is an unroofed external space provided within the volume of a large building to allow light and air to reach what would otherwise be a dark or unventilated area. Lightwells may be lined with glazed bricks to increase the reflection of sunlight within the space.
Lightwells serve to reduce the necessity for electric lighting and are a must have for lower ground floors to provide an internal open space for windows to give an illusion of having a view outside.

Light is a principal design element in architecture. Light has a major impact on inhabitant comfort, aesthetics, and environmental efficiency of a building. Besides the choice of materials, a good understanding and careful design of lighting can help to control the effective geometry of the space.

With an enormous range of lighting fixtures and artificial lighting effects, we sometimes forget about natural lighting effect such as daylight. Indirect sunlight makes spaces to feel most comfortable, so it is very important to plan the orientation of the opening, considering cardinal directions of the building. Remember that sun will move during the day creating different shadows.
