If you enjoyed reading Part 1 of this Article yesterday, then thank you for coming back for the rest of it :)

6.      We always try to use natural materials for interior finishes rather than its imitation and prefer matt finishes to shiny. We are trying not to use ceramic basins and polished stone, but like to integrate matt sealed stones, cement tiles, microcement, matt resin stone basins and matt stone worktops into our design.

7.      We are very much in favour of straight and square lines in space design. Clean and even architectural approach to space planning and interior design has always been our favourite. We would mostly use straight lines in space division, joinery design and FF&E specifications. Generally, we would not use a lot of curves, celebrating a more minimal approach to shapes and space forms. Symmetry and alignment in design always helps to achieve great visual aesthetics.

8.      Among natural materials we like using wood very much when designing a house. Wooden flooring is almost a must for us. We can also experiment and add some character to the space by introducing reclaimed wood furniture or antique pieces from France, Italy and Spain.

9.      Mostly we are getting inspired by Scandinavian and Mediterranean interior design styles and trying to create a modern fused variation of both.

10.       When designing a house we put a lot of love and attention to details and in general to everything we do ;)

10 Interior Design Tips from Ardesia Design (Part 2)

1.     When it comes to designing a house, we like to do it in a simple and modern way. However, we always try to add warmth and cosiness to the space by fitting wooden flooring and choosing warm colour scheme.

2.      We always try to maximise amount of daylight entering the space. If windows size cannot be changed, the great way to bring more light into the room is to use lightweight, sometimes a bit see-through, curtains. This soft breezy Mediterranean look makes the space feel more bright and airy.

3.      Both for window dressing and other soft furnishings we like to use soft, light and high-quality fabrics. Our favourite choices of fabrics would be natural looking materials, such as linen, cotton, stonewashed cotton and cashmere. Those fabrics not only look beautiful, but also feel extremely soft and cosy.

4.      Lighting design plays a big role in the overall house renovation. We study the space very carefully and come up with some clever lighting solutions to benefit each room. We use different electrical circuits to separate lighting and create various layers for a more dramatic look. This would include: general lighting as downlights, highlighting specific areas within the room; task lighting, usually a pendant light over the dining table or a reading light next to the bed and atmospheric lighting, that could be an LED lighting strip within a joinery piece, niches in the bathroom, LED strips behind the bathtub and decorative standalone lamps in the living room and bedrooms. All lighting would be on dimmers for a full control to choose between strong and soft lighting schemes.

5.      When we work on the colour scheme for the project we use a layer system as well. The base layer would be quite neutral and will include all the fitted elements of the interior, such as flooring, wall paints, kitchen cabinets, bathroom finishes and joinery. We would include all the movable and easy replaceable pieces, such as furniture, window dressing and decorative pieces into the second layer, that could be more bright and colourful. This way the shell of the interior is quite neutral and you will never get tired of it, when all the decorative pieces could be changed and upgraded depending on the current season, trends and mood of the house occupier.

10 Interior Design Tips from Ardesia Design (Part 1)

If you’ve heard anything about Feng Shui before, you’ll know how important it is to create good energy in your home.  This is especially true when it comes to your bedroom, as it is one of the rooms in your home where you will spend a lot of time.  If you’ve been wondering how to create a great Feng Shui bedroom design, keep reading.  We aim to give you three simple steps that you can implement straight away.

Step 1: Create a Good Energy Foundation
Creating a good energy foundation relates to establishing the basic rules of your room, so that you can add extra features where you see fit.  There are three main rules to a good energy foundation:
- Clean air
Natural light
- No clutter

You may also want to consider not having any electrical equipment in your room.  This is because gadgets and devices like mobile phones and TVs create high electromagnetic fields which can harm your good energy.  Letting in natural light, keeping the room free of clutter, and encouraging natural air flow will all provide a good foundation from which to build upon.

Step 2: Place Your Bed in a Commanding Position
You want to place your bed in its rightful commanding position.  It should face one of your lucky Feng Shui directions, and should also be easily accessible from both sides.  You should avoid placing a mirror opposite your bed, or having any sharp angles facing you when you sleep.  Once you have your bed in place, you can place your other items of furniture accordingly.  It is fine to move them around from time to time, just keep your Feng Shui directions in mind to encourage energy to flow harmoniously.

Step 3: Make Good Use of Colours and Décor
Finally, it’s important to make good use of colours and décor in order to create a harmonious space that will nourish and heal you.  You want to create a serene feel to your bedroom, so only include items that you want to be surrounded with.

Feng Shui colour guidelines dictate that neutral colours are best for the bedroom as are earthy colour tones like chocolate and sand.  You can also add sensual romantic colours like magenta and red if you want to add a sense of modernity to your design.

Your bedroom should also be a comfortable place, so opt to use comfy bedding like that from Threel.co.uk, have dimmer switches installed for a softer lighting scheme, and install art that makes you feel happy and inspired.

Your bedroom is an outward expression of yourself, so it’s time to turn it into a place that you enjoy spending time in.  The following Feng Shui tips will help improve your energy, whether you sleep alone or with a loved one.  Keep them in mind when you next redecorate, and you are guaranteed to feel a lot better after the first night in your new room.

Good luck creating your harmonious Feng Shui bedroom!

Three Steps to a Feng Shui Bedroom Design

Staircase is usually the first architectural element of interior to see. Unfortunately, because of everyday use they may seem dull and rub away quickly. But stairs may look amazing if you use some creativity and a can of paint! If you love the fresh look and easy-to-sweep finish of painted stairs these ideas are just for you. Painting the stairs can brighten the area, even when the rest of the walls are not refreshed. More adventurous homeowners can even paint a faux runner on the stair treads to create the appearance of carpeting. They may be real eye-catchers or just a colour accent in a light space.

Creative Ways to Remake Your Stairs On a Budget

By utilizing the natural light in your home, you can make any room seem fresh and full of life, but not all rooms are as easy to fill with light as others. Enhancing your property’s natural light will make it a more relaxing place for you to be, and will also help you sell a property (according to this article in The Guardian); if that is something you are considering. Here are some ideas to help you bring in the sunshine, and light up your rooms and life.

Enlarge Your Windows
The most straightforward way to increase natural light is to give it more space to enter a room, and making your window space bigger is sure to do that. It is an easy enough job for a builder to enlarge your windows, and even a small increase can have a huge effect. Changing a window for a French door would bring in extra light too, but you will probably need to have a girder made to measure by a professional steel fabricator like Cannonsteelsltd.co.uk to have the correct structural support. Of course you could also add a window, but if you are going to do that, consider which direction the wall is facing to bring more light into your home when you want it.

Fit a Skylight or Light Well
This is another structural change to a property, and is not suitable for many. However, if you live in a loft conversion or basement, it may be the only choice. This natural light coming into a home from above may not seem much different to having overhead lighting, but once you experience it, you will see the difference it can make.

Consider Bigger Rooms
You may have one room that has a lot of light flooding into it, while the next room has hardly any; and if this is the case, you should think about combining the spaces. You do not need to lose the extra room, as you can use a divider if an occasion arises that demands a private space. What this will do is combine the light from both rooms, giving you a bigger area that has tremendous light.

Add Glass Panel Doors
If you do not want to make any structural changes to your property, you will be happy to know that you can add natural light from one room to another; and by fitting glass panel doors to the interior of your home you will allow the light to move around your property. Opaque glass is probably the best idea, but if you don’t want any kind of privacy, you could consider removing the doors altogether, and fitting archways for added effect.

Strategically placed mirrors will help bounce whatever natural light you have around your room, so try and have at least one mirror in a room to aid the natural light. Glass tables, shiny floors, silky soft furnishings, and even satin finished paint on your walls can have a reflective quality, so use these things to bounce the light as well.

Natural light not only looks great, it makes you feel great as well. I hope that these ideas will bring you all the light that you want, and that your days are brighter because of it.
