Ellie Curtis is an artist who works with different forms of printmaking and illustration. She is mainly working with silkscreen print, drawing up design for fabrics which then are being screen printed at her Hackney print studio "East London Printmakers". Ellie mainly prints her designs to sell as furnishing fabrics by the metre.
Ms Curtis is getting inspired by animal kingdom. As she is saying she often considers human qualities in animals or draws people but in an animal form.
Ellie about herself and inspiration:
I went to university at Camberwell College of Art and Design and I although I did a Graphic Design degree, I got fascinated in printed textiles while looking around Peckham and Brixton markets at Nigerian prints. They cheered me up so much. I loved the fact the designs celebrated random things like toothbrushes and chickens. I get inspired by trips to anthropological museums, music, the people I meet, early medieval paintings at The National Gallery, astronaut's blogs, Toile de Jouy textiles, nature programmes, zoos and dog's facial expressions when outside shops. I'm also an illustrator and I write stories. I sometimes bring these into my textiles too.

Happy Saturday Everyone :) I hope you all have a chance to sleep for a little bit longer today...
Today's post is dedicated to the soft stuff, like cushions, throws and blankets in respect to the weekend.
I have met Jorunn Hustoft at DesignJunction during London Design week, she was presenting her own company called Nnuroj. I was curious to see all those lovely knitted items she was showing.
The company was launched in the summer of 2012. Jorunn is Norwegian designer, who works from her studio near the seaside in Nnuroj

During London Design week we have visited quite a few design fairs and exhibitions and noticed that a lot of fabric companies are keen on flower pattern. We do not usually use flower patterns in our design, as we are following our natural and minimalistic taste, but this could definitely work for people who love bright colours. You can use flower pattern on wallpapers, upholstery, bed linens or even rugs, but not all of it together.

Marcelise is another great textile company we got lucky to meet at Maison et Objet, Paris. They produce sustainable, eco-friendly and stylish fabrics. With Marcelise, the designer Chloé Sanier has found the perfect opportunity to develop her very personal design vocabulary, contemporary, sensual, up to date but very much part of the traditional home.
From their website:
The company Marcelise has been born through the desire of its creator to develop textiles for the home which resonate with the spirit of the times, provide great design using resilient fabrics, and crucially, are without danger to either our health or the environment.
For this collection, the designer has chosen to create a range of contemporary necessities for everyday living, using finely woven soft-washed linen. Derived from flax grown within Europe , the linen is produced in a way which not only supports sustainable development, but which also provides excellent working conditions for those entrusted with its high quality manufacture.
Using fine pure linen, Marcelise collections will feature contemporary graphics and intricate designs.
Irregularly repeated patterns on tablecloths, cushions, curtains and bed-covers, gives the illusion of every product being unique, whilst also providing continuity. Each design is enlivened by enticing coloured detail, both subtle and contrasting, lending the textiles an ability to suit all tastes and interiors.

There was a lot of linen (as we expected) at this year's show so it was quite refreshing to meet the Spanish company MikMax. The thing that got us interested about MikMax was their lovely range of jersey bedlinens in fantastic colours, striped patterns and just a great, high quality. Although MikMax also offered some linen options (who doesn't at the moment), we were just so excited about their jersey range and also their great throw collection. I especially loved the double sided throws!
