Boxing Day
Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated in Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and other Commonwealth countries. Boxing Day originated in the middle of the nineteenth century in England under Queen Victoria. Celebration includes spending time with your family and close friends with a lot of food, fun and presents. Boxing Day menu could include Turkey from the day before, served with potato vegetables and different trimming.
Boxing Day is called so because of the custom on that day for tradesmen to collect their Christmas boxes or gifts in return for good and reliable service. The tradition of celebrating Boxing Day includes giving money and gifts to charities or people in need.
Nowadays, Boxing Day is all about presents and shopping. While government buildings and small business are closed, the shopping malls are filled with people trying to get a bargain.
There is also an interesting Boxing Day charity event called The Boxing Day Dip. During this event people in fancy dress swim in the sea. Fancy dips are taking place in several places around Europe, but the largest is held by the Lions Club of Sunderland, England. Participants are expected to wear fancy dress and jump into the North Sea.
Have a Great Boxing Day ;)
